Farmhouse Review- 5 stars

Updated: Mar 23, 2020

I am a huuuggeeee foodie. It can be cooking at home with a new recipe I have pinned from Pinterest, or trying out a new restaurant that a friend or coworker has recommended. So, I was stoked that it was Newport Beach Restaurant Week this month (Jan 13-26th). I have been telling Wes, my family and some friends that that I wanted to try Farmhouse in Corona Del Mar. Thankfully, the restaurant was participating in NB Restaurant Week festivities and wow....did it not disappoint.

Farmhouse Restaurant is nestled inside Roger Gardens (a home & garden center). If you have never been you should definitely go to look at their home and garden decor, especially around the holidays. But I'm not just telling you this because I think it's a fun place to browse. The restaurant is a quaint, mostly outdoor farm-to-table, with seasonal menu items, which are quite tasty. Every table is strategically located throughout the space to create the perfect ambiance. You could choose to sit under the strung twinkle lights, or next to one of the fountains or seated in the greenhouse looking building. There isn't a bad table in the place. As mentioned in previous posts, I am always concerned about being cold while eating outside. I never had to worry while dining here. The staff skillfully maneuver the heating lamps from unused tables to keep you warm while you are dining. Additionally, for an extra special touch, each chair is pre-hung with a blanket in case the heaters aren't enough for you.

Since it was Newport Beach Restaurant Week, we decided to do the preset menu which I have pictured above. The vegetable soup was this decadent mushroom soup in the cutest little shooter. The soup was paired with these 2 Parmesan potato cakes topped with a sweet apple chutney. Sadly, we are doing 'Dry January so we did not try any of their craft cocktails (which I have heard are amazing) or their wines. Our second course consisted of a citrus and avocado salad. Usually when ordering this type of salad at a restaurant they give you 2 slices of avocado. Not here! They plated half an avocado on each salad, and it paired perfectly with the grapefruit slices. For the entree, we had the option of the yellowfin tuna or the Vietnamese chicken meatball 'Pho.' We both chose the tuna. The fish was perfectly seasoned and prepared. It was plated with a maple bourbon pureed butternut squash, broccolini and cauliflower. Our final course was the lemon cake with homemade whipped cream. I have quite a sweet tooth, but to be perfectly honest, the dessert was not my favorite. It was super rich, and was just a bit too much for my liking. I have it pictured below.

Lemon Cake

Our food outstanding, and I cannot say enough about the staff. We had the most attentive waiter, busboys and ancillary staff. If your water glass was half full, they were there in a nano-second to refill it. The staff worked cohesively as a team. If there was an empty plate/dish that needed to be cleared, someone would pick it up.  Could have been the waiter, busboy or bartender. One of the waiters (not ours) had a full bottle of wine & 2 glasses in his hand and still cleared my dinner plate. Farmhouse is completely booked most nights, but we never felt rushed or like they were trying to hurry us out. This is a def must come back (when were aren't on Dry January) not only for the craft cocktails but to try out their regular menu!!! Definitely give this place a try!! Cheers!
