Not just a Fable....

Updated: Mar 23, 2020

Not a fable or make believe....this restaurant is here to stay!! Since it opening in the summer of 2019, Fable and Spirit has been creatively, locally and deliciously plating tasty/healthy dishes.

Weston and I were looking for great food, a fun environment and fabulous drinks to celebrate our anniversary weekend. Fable & Spirit was a place we had both heard great things about it from friends, so we knew it was a must do. This relatively new, hip restaurant is located near the Lido Marina Village, next door to the notorious Bear Flag. All their plates are made with locally sourced ingredients focused on healthy and tasty entrees.

We arrived a little early to Fable & Spirit for our 6:45pm reservation. We "bee-lined" it to the comfy seats at the bar to watch the mixologist shake, mix and pour a multitude of craft cocktails they are known best for. Cocktails here are served in ornate glasses. The bar is a colorful yellow and navy blue colors giving the whole restaurant a warm, quaint and inviting feel. I ordered a glass of rosé, of course, and Weston had a Fairy's Revenge (gin based cocktail).

After querying friends about the menu, we knew we wouldn’t go wrong with any of the vegetable plates. Our server highly recommended the brussel sprouts and the heirloom carrots. We opted to try the carrots because they are topped with goat cheese, chimichurri and hazelnuts…..um yes please!! We will definitely come back at a future date to try the brussel sprouts. Our anniversary dinner began with their Guinness brown bread-which was to die for. I highly recommend ordering this a starter. Since it was our anniversary, Weston really wanted to splurge a little so we split the 36 day aged rib-eye which came adorned with tomatoes, shallots and a Cabernet reduction. The beef was paired with these cute little hassle back potatoes. In general, I am not one to order beef as my entree. It was not my favorite, and I honestly would not order it again. I have my eye on the salmon with farro, kale and cipollini onion next time we visit. The staff was extremely attentive and kind. They 'comped' us each a glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary.

Protip: We tried to make a reservation about a week ahead of time but many of the tables were already booked. So I would definitely try to book over a week out.

Cheers!!!
